Bio / History | Quick Links: Sister Sunshine's Lyrics Sister Sunshine's Cover Song List
Welcome to the groovy world of Ledhead Lydia!
A fortysomething mother to five, Lydia Glider – Shelley has been writing songs for nearly three decades, and has won awards for some of her other writing, starting as early as first grade.
You can read one of her short stories here.
Beginning at the age of 15, she played as a street musician, and has only begun to play “plugged in” within the last decade, primarily around the Hollywood, Florida area.
Affectionately renamed “Sister Sunshine” and “Led Head” by those whom she has embraced as “family” over the years, Lydia will go to great lengths to illustrate a point.
“I read an interview with Bob Marley once,” she says, “in ‘Rolling Stone’ or something…He said his music was ‘something really serious. Not entertainment. You entertain people who are satisfied,’ he pointed out, ‘Hungry people can’t be entertained - - - or people who are afraid. You can’t entertain a man who has no food.’”
In keeping with this philosophy, Lydia suggests that she is not an entertainer. “Sister Sunshine,” or “Led Head” (whichever you prefer) is a minister of music.
“The purpose of my material is to soothe and heal hurting souls,” she states, “to commiserate, identify. To say ‘I have walked in shoes very much like yours. I care.’”
Drawing her influences from such diverse sources as Janis Joplin, Olivia Newton – John, Bob Marley, Ernie Smith, and John Denver, as well as Neil Young, Alanis Morrisette, and local South Florida artists such as Billy White, Amy Carol Webb or a band called B.O.B. has made Lydia’s style as unique as the individual she is.
We hope your journey through the landscape of picturesque lyrics you are about to experience will be as revealing for you as the writer intended.
In closing, Lydia would like for you all to know that it is her humble pleasure to serve God, the Ultimate Creator by presenting these songs…the creations He has given her the privilege of bringing, with love, to the people of this planet.
Thank you, enjoy.
BTW... for those who are interested, my lyrics are here:http://sistersunshine.com/TOC.html
BTW... if you'd like a website, stop by and check out my work at Rainbow Websites! I will create websites free for needy artists, musicians, bands and photographers!
Also:
Let this statement serve as my express consent for any of my material to be used by anyone for nonprofit purposes, provided proper credit is given. A link to one of my sites is also preferred, but not obligatory. However, when using my material, please let me hear it! (And link to it where applicable!) Permission will also be granted to those seeking it for profit... but you must get it from me on paper in writing in that case.
My highest aspiration is to become a writer/producer/director of stage/screenplays... and I am seriously interested in collaboration with people from any genre! |
| Been a while...
After Club M Closed at the end of July, I tried to keep open mic. nights going at two different locations, neither of which was willing to pay me. Disgusted, I quit playing altogether since then... and have taken to retiring at 8 or 9pm to rise at 5 or 6am. I like this schedule... so I doubt I'll return to playing at night in bars.
On Wednesday night I dropped in on an open mic. night some friends have... I stayed up 22 hours on New Year's and was turned around enough to stay up late... but I only sang harmony with a friend. Then I had to pick my dd up from work and frankly I was ready to hit the hay.
If I do play music in the future it will likely be weddings, parties, Happy Hour gigs and/or churches... and unless they're paying big bucks: NOT late at night.
I hope to record all of my material professionally one day... but live performance is likely to be rare.

I'm feeling really low emotionally right now and it all centers around my music. Thoughts and prayers at this time are greatly appreciated.

| | Featured Artist/Latest Gig
I just got a note from Andrew saying I've been chosen as the featured artist here on jamwave.com and that's awesome!
I've been really busy building websites, but I do have a nice gig coming up this weekend in addition to my usual open mic./jam night gigs that are every week.
On Saturday night I'll be playing all originals to close the show at Atmosphere Coffee Lounge, 300 S.W. 1st Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301 and the phone # there is 954-779-1800.
I'm scheduled to go on at 11... and will be handing out lyric booklets while supplies last. Each booklet will have song explanations and be a unique keepsake of the evening.
Click here to download the special lyrics booklet I'll be handing out at Saturday night's performance

| | Awesome gig!On Friday June 1 I had a gig for my birthday party and it was the best time I've ever had for my birthday. So many people came out IN THE POURING RAIN to perform and just to show their love... it was humbling and thrilling. I enjoyed it so much, especially the part about getting paid for my own birthday party, that I think I'll make it a birthday tradition!
Oh, and they FINALLY put MY NAME on the Club M calendar for Thursday nights: www.clubmhollywood.com/schedule.html | posted: 06/06/2007 12:19:28 PM - email it - view/add comments(0)
