Aimless Sessions's Music

Bio / History

Whether I'm playing the piano, organ or the guitar, it really doesn't matter with what band I'm doing it with, as long as I can be creating jazz.

I create jazz with several bands: Aimless Sessions, Jazz Enigma, Mark Hammond Trio, Paradox Jazz Trio, Smooth n' Saxy, Windy City Ryde and I'm sure there will be more to come. I suppose my passion is the creativity and to see what level I can take it to with the musicians. I'm always on the look out for good musicians who can cut the mustard when it comes to my creations.

I've been lucky in that I've always been able to come up with a few at a time that have been willing to give it a go. They have given me a chance for creativity by adding their talent to my compositions. These great musicians have done just that and I hope to do a lot more with them as time progresses. I never drop the old ones and always go back for their input and talent to keep the creativity alive.

The current band pix above is called Aimless Sessions. It consists of 7 musicians: John Bates-double bass, Clarence-trombone and Danielle Reed-trumpet/flugelhorn, Alberto Sanchez-piano, Kenny Vee-drums, Markku Vuollet-guitar and Jamal Washington-alto sax.

Finally got around to doing some stuff on the guitar. It's one thing to do rhythm and another doing lead especially as stiff and painful as my fingers have been in the last several months. I had to lay off playing keys for a while as it really did me in.

Never the less, I uploaded No Time To Lose and EZ Does It which are a bit slower than the other tunes on the page. No Time To Lose is just with rhythm guitar, double bass and drums with a Wes Montgomery feel lead. Danielle does a muted trumpet solo on there.

EZ Does It has piano, double bass, rhythm guitar, me on lead guitar, Danielle on muted trumpet and Pete Mazur a tenor sax player with Windy City Ryde does a sax solo.

Got involved with some awesome musicians and decided to take it easy and just do some guitar background stuff for a while. Once again the name changed to reflect the band and the purpose. In this case we have none so we call ourselves Aimless Sessions.

The style is much more laid back instead of the Windy City Ryde music which had a lot more edge. Incidentally, anyone interested in listening to Windy City Ryde may do so by going to the web site; http://windycityryde.com

With the new band we also do a lot of Bossa Novas, something I fell in love with back in the late 60's. Many of the band members dig the style too.

Saw your blog, posted a comment.  Don't know if you'll see it or not...but, I believe the Creator (the Music) has a plan for you in this situation too. Thanks for all you do for the music.  Our job is to merely manifest it and let it go.  You've done well.  People listen.   - Love, Tomaca
